Our Galactic core seems to be very active is it about 2012?

Having read the book 2012 where John Major Jenkins (a leading independent Maya researcher) presents his views about 2012 in very factual way I am interested in any real news about our Galaxy and especially it's center. That's why NASA's announcement a bit earlier this year caught my attention since it relates indirectly to 2012. What 2012 you may ask? OK the 2012 is when the Long Count (one cycle) in the Maya calendar ends. 21st December 2012 is "13.0.0.0.0" in the Maya Long Count calendar which is the start of the 14th b'ak'tun. Unfortunately many people mistakenly think this means the end of the world. However it is not the end of the world it is an end of an cycle and a beginning of a new one. But more about that a bit later.

Back to Jenkins. In his 2012 book we are clearly given a Maya world view where they somehow knew about our Universe in quite a detail. They had a very complex and advanced calendar system - it's so complex that not many people can really comprehend it, also the Spanish inquisition did a really good job in destroying all the evidence so trying to decipher the Mayan calendar system accurately has been very hard (this is a big shame - another thing the Catholics have done wrong big time). Anyway the calendar system has two main parts, the Zolk'in which was the more normal annual calendar (although it had a strange mix of 260 day sacred cycle and a more normal 365 day cycle but that's a yet another story) and the Long Count which counted for very long periods of time not just for thousands of years but also for tens of millions of years. Wow. Why did they want to calculate such long timescales and why did they mix 260 day calendar with the 365 day calendar? Good questions, hard to answer thanks to the inquisition. There is much more about this in Jenkins book and elsewhere on the internet. No one of course is sure and the evidence is not comprehensive so we do not know.

However more interestingly it seems that the Galactic alignment did actually already happen already 1998 - one theory is that from Maya's point of view (since their viewpoint was Mexico) - it is indeed happening in 2012. Another explanation is that there are some confusion about the dates anyway (this is yet another long story) so the dates just dont match exactly due to unreliable day counting during certain parts of our history. So Jenkins calls this period as the era 2012 which is a transitional time for our planet based on Maya beliefs. For me this makes sense. During this time we are aligned with the Galactic Center in a special way (called the Sacred Tree) which Mayans considered to be the sign of re-birth for the life on earth. Note that this is not the annual alignment of the Earth, Sun and the galactic plane which does happen every year regularly. This is an alignment that happens for every about 26,000 years based on the Earth's axial precession (which is explained very simply in the video below) which according to Jenkins Mayans were aware of (this is debated however).

Anyway to cut a really complex story short what the Mayans are saying (based on Popol Vuh) that we are ending one "World Age" and entering another one. Each transition between "World Ages" means major changes for human civilization. This is very clear and everyone agrees about the dates and times, so we are indeed at the end of one Mayan age and entering a new one.

As we know we are going through very turbulent years indeed on our planet Earth. We are experiencing more climate changes, tsunamis, financial meltdowns and other misfortunes during this 2012 era. Humanity is indeed at a decision point. We do need to change our behavior or we might die as a culture sooner or later. Countless people including Al Gore, Bill Clinton and Richard Branson are talking about how we need to change towards a more sustainable way of life - however this message is ignored by many capitalists since they just want to make more and more money and did I say more money. Apparently its not anymore cool to make millions but billions - only then you are a cool dude. How sad and disappointing. Do these people know anything about real poverty?

Much more interesting is that how did the Mayans knew already thousands of years ago that humanity would be in a turning point during the 2012 era? That I find very fascinating indeed and this cannot be disputed. Our survival as a race is dependent on the decision we make on this 2012 era and how we as a society evolve. It could be that we do not since now we have the technology to destroy us all in an instant if we want to.

What we do know is that all great civilizations have ended in one way or another. As Neo said in the Matrix: "Everything that has an beginning has an end". Maybe Mayans have tried to warn us. Be re-born or die. Maybe that is the message encoded in the Mayan calendar. Maybe that is the wisdom from the past.

Lets go a little bit back to NASA before we get too depressed. They have found this huge magnetic field in the Galactic core (or a potential massive black hole). As explained by Paul La Violette in the video below what NASA has discovered is a magnetically very active system which may indeed impact life on Earth. According to Violette this has happened in the past (this is described in his book Earth under fire). Based on historical data we know there has been many major catastrophic events on planet earth including pole shifts, massive floods, meteorites, huge volcanic activity, massive fires, etc... our planet has not always been such a friendly and cosy place that it is today. It could be that the magnetic activity interconnects the entire Galaxy to be a one functioning system which has a life of its own. At the size of the Galaxy these cycles would be very very long so it does not mean something would happen right now.

Maybe that's why the Mayan calendar counted millions and millions of years. Who knows.

And just maybe maybe they knew the cycle, the pulse that the Galaxy is beating and we now have a choice to either start understanding that pulse or ignore it and disappear as a civilization.
