Organic food
We are what we eat. This is actually literally true. Our body re-constructs constantly its composition based on the stuff going through your mouth. There are many things which are really bad for us like sugars and certain fats for example. They are very addictive and as such key ingredients in fast food. The reason why many fast food corporations are so successful is that they sell addictive food - food which is full of sugars, fats and other not so healthy ingredients. Nasty capitalists are making money and destroying peoples health as their means to make more money. These is one of the reasons why America for example is so full of overweight people. I know Jamie Oliver has been there for making a point of this but more work is needed around the world for people to start eating more healthy.
Note that this is just not a personal question - it's a question how we use the limited resources of this planet. The choice what you eat is not anymore a personal choice, it also impacts everyone else on the planet. For example eating large amounts of beef produces large amounts of CO2 which impacts our planet.
To make a step towards a more healthier life we need to eat less factory produced stuff (less junk) and more fresh stuff from the garden. Salads are one key in this. Salads do not have to be boring, they can be very existing to construct and to eat. UK chef Jamie Oliver has a great clip on his You Tube channel about making salads. It really gets your appetite going.
Even on TED there is this new video about this great 11-year old kid who has decided to start a fight against the food industry - I just love it. Watch it here.
But is there any real evidence that eating more greens is actually good for you? I was actually able to prove this myself completely scientifically. I was an a raw food diet a while ago for 3 months - I did not change anything else in my lifestyle than just the diet. I had a full blood test at the beginning of the diet and also at the end. After 3 months being on the diet all my blood values came back to perfectly normal healthy values (things like cholesterol). My doctor was amazed - he could not believe the results. He asked what did I do. I told him that I just changed what I am eating. He told me that usually people do not change. That is very true. That is the hardest part. Sugars, fats and salts are all very addictive. But once you get out of the junk food the cravings will end.
Speaking about fats - not all fats are harmful however. Udo Erasmus has a very good website for health conscious people about fats. It is a very good resource when you are planning what to eat. In a nutshell he is saying eat more green stuff and consume fish oils.
Note that before you change your diet consult your doctor. Best is to change it gradually, one thing at a time. For example you could leave out all sugary things first and replace them with carrots, nuts and seeds. That's a start.
