Mind

Mind over matter. What is mind? I believe like I wrote in my blog "Who am I: Time, Mental Conditioning and Mind" that mind can be trained to be more directly connected with the reality allowing you to explore and experience life more fully. I believe this will lead in for you to be able to reclaim your own life allowing you do be more the stuff that you want and be happier. Happiness is something you cannot buy and it is a state of mind.

Interestingly Quantum Physics has a lot to say on this subject (browse the books in my library for Alt Science). I believe the brightest minds or innovators are usually ahead of their time and their views of the world are not typically accepted initially since it does not respect the current world view. Hush hush! However there is always a curiosity in our minds to see or discover just a bit more. I certainly think David Bohm was one of the most recent minds who is truly ahead of his contemporaries and his books provide lots of interesting reading. One good one to start is The Essential David Bohm. Many of the true innovators were school drop-outs and rebels who just saw the world differently.

On a bit more negative note I also believe our Western capitalist world is conditioning our minds to consume more stuff (you know advertising does work, especially on TV) than you actually need. I do not see anything bad in making money since a healthy planet has a healthy economics but if it is done by ruthlessly benefiting from the helpless and also at the same time destroying the resources of our planet - that is certainly not a very positive thing. As Ken Robinson says we are "Out of our minds". It is not only the climate which is out of control, it is our minds which are also out of control. There is more depression, suicides and other mind related illnesses than before.

But if we can train our minds away from negative conditioning we can help to reclaim our mental health and help to remove the imbalance of the planet. However our culture does not have a training for a healthy mind. It is actually proven that our education system can make us more stupid as Sir Ken Robinson has proven on this video. The education system just trains us to stuff the mind with data but not how to control the mind, how to silence the mind for example for health benefits. We all know after a busy day in the office how our thoughts just churn in our brains and we cannot stop it. We can take the pill to help us to fall asleep but we cannot control our own mind. We have lost our selves. If we loose the control of our minds - what is left?

Interestingly I did just read a tweet from Dalai Lama "Material development only brings us physical comfort; mental development depends on training the mind." where he talks about the same thing. It's all about the mind and it's all about a healthy mind.

Eastern philosophies have done this sort of mind training for eons to link us with who we are but this does not seem to fit so well with the current Western capitalist education system which wants us to remain us dumb consumers disconnected from our self and not to awaken to our true capability. The existing education is coming from outside in rather than to connect people with their true talents. It is built to server the needs of capitalism rather than the needs of individuals.

To transform education system will transform how we think, how we imagine about things and also how we control our mind. This will ultimately change the world we live in. Humans are very powerful - we have imagination and we can create things based on thoughts in our mind. Our mind does move matter. We just need to start using our minds in a more constructive way. One great book about this subject is Limitless Mind by Russel Targ.
