Sir Ken Robinson about Education

Wow - an excellent video about Education, Climate Change and about it all. Talking about how our current education system is mostly based on economic requirements rather than on actually educating people - it seems that the education system makes you actually less intelligent and there is some evidence about this at the end of the video.

We all know how little we actually learned on school, learning is usually happening only when we are motivated and engaged and that usually happened outside the school. I did some work on this learning thing at the end of 90' in Media Lab Helsinki and there is now a big team of people focusing on how new media can help us to learn better (well done Media Lab!).

The key in learning is motivation and once we are motivated and we seem to start a natural process of inquiry. This process can be enhanced in a modern way for example through frameworks such as knowledge building or progressive inquiry. Approaches like these should be used everywhere to re-build the entire education system.

The existing education is coming from outside in rather than to connect people with their true talents. To transform education system will transform the world we live in. Luckily there is lots of change going on but more is needed. Watch the video or read some learning related books
