Fantastic example how little things can make a real improvement in people's lives. Should we have more innovators in the world like him this world would be a much better place to be.

Cool TED Video: Copying Nature to create batteries
Good: EU planning to ban Fossil Fuel Powered Cars from Cities by 2050It is a very good plan in principle BUT the question is again with what is the Fossil Fuel replaced with. Electricity. Yes but how is this electricity produced, well by nuclear power of course. Electric cars are very cool indeed but the electricity generation needs to be non conventional (meaning not fossil fuel or nuclear fission based) this to have any positive impact unfortunately. If you have electric cars but the electricity production is not green the cars are not any better what we have today in terms of environmental impact. Also the recent events in Japan have shown the extremely high risks with nuclear (fission) based energy production. Any radiation we have produced will stay with us for 100,000 years - that is not very cool at all. Even this ban would concern cities only BBC is reporting that UK does not want to do this. How disappointing. Come on UK you need to be better than that.To really solve our energy problems more money needs to go into research and development of completely green and revolutional energy production technologies. Read more about them from here.
Interesting section of Alternative Energy in LA TimesSeems alternative energy is finally gaining more mainstream attention. More articles and more discussion is going on everywhere, this recent TED video was also a great thing to watch for example and this new LA Times section is cool. Eventually the Fossil Fuel economy is replaced with more sustainable solutions which is a good thing. Enough of pollution! More green and re-cycled stuff please.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/alternative-energy/ New way to store Hydrogen safelyAnother new way to store Hydrogen safely and in a compact way. This is a new UK start-up, this technology seems to be based on a completely new approach. Looking forward to see if this would finally be the Hydrogen breakthrough we need. The other US based company United Nuclear uses metal alloys and has some issues in the alloys (seems the material is restricted) but also very interesting company in this field:
A new way to produce hydrogenFrom Wired: "The authors demonstrate a device that is capable of taking solar energy and using it directly to split water, releasing oxygen and hydrogen. It can also perform a similar conversion on carbon dioxide, converting it to carbon monoxide and oxygen.". This is apparently more efficient than the traditional methods for example electrolysis.
The Unified Field, Mini Black Holes and Beach BumsWow - you rarely find an alternative scientist whose Wikipedia page keeps being deleted. Ha ha - I have recently found two of them and they both have seemed to discovered something interesting. They both have interesting ideas about the Unified Field Theory and they also both claim to know the reason and mathematics behind why the electrons keep spinning in atoms. They both seem also to like Hawaii. Sounds good so far.
You might think what is all the fuzz? Well we do not know why the electrons keep spinning forever and what is the actual glue that holds the universe together. What is powering all this? Where is the energy coming for this non-stop motion? This is what all the scientists battle about going into complex string theories which to me sounds all too messy but I am not a scientist just a generalist so what am I to say. However I know that if we would understand fully what is powering the atoms non-stop we can create energy out of nothing and solve all our energy related problems in a millisecond.
The first guy which I found more recently is Nassim Haramein and he has recently published an scientific paper called "The Schwarzschild Proton," which has apparently passed the peer review process and has been published at the American Institute of Physics (AIP) Conference Proceedings. You can see from this link that there is certainly an entry in the table of contents so there is some evidence that something is really going on. This paper also received a Best Paper Award in the field of "Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Field Theory, and Gravitation" at the University of Liège, Belgium during the 9th International Conference CASYS'09 (Computing Anticipatory Systems). The award is displayed on his website.
Haramein's theory is simply that the Proton in the nucleus of an atom is actually a mini black hole and he has some complex maths to prove this. This according to him would make the atom to keep itself together simply using gravitation. There are also many fascinating details about this approach which are listed in the nice little video below. Nassim is certainly a very interesting and controversial figure which makes him in my mind very fit to the potential category of true innovators (they have all been crackpots) and his theory sounds revolutionary and simple. I like the sound of anything that is simple. Time will show what happens with his theories but so far it is looking very interesting indeed. You can read more about Haramein from his organizations website called the Resonance Project and below is a video explanation about his theory done by someone in YouTube. Cool.
The second chap Marco Rodin who created a Unified Field theory just as a beach bum (a modern version of Einstein perhaps?) has also some very complex maths to show why electrons keep spinning forever. He, interestingly, also talks about black holes and claims he can manufacture them. His unified field theory is also very simple. Maybe there is a link with Haramein's work and Rodin's work? I have not heard much news from Marco Rodin recently after he started focusing on his Rodin Coils and alternative propulsion and energy production systems - he has gone very silent indeed. Lets hope these innovators get out of their labs and can create something we can actually use.
PS. I am still also awaiting CERN million dollar particle accelerator to create a mini black hole, but don't think that is going to happen.
Hydrogen Powered dual fuel car from 1974Google has a new interesting search called Ngrams. You can see how often a search term occurs in books Google has scanned, starting from 1500! Quite amazing. I did a search for a "Hydrogen Car" and found out that in Popular Science Magazine from 1974 they have an article about a dual fuel Hydrogen car. Quite amazing. Looks very similar to what United Nuclear is doing currently in the US but this technology has been available already from 1970s. You can also browse Popular Science Magazine articles online.
Home completely off grid
This is still using all conventional solar, hydrogen, heat exchange stuff together. But it shows it is possible.
